Christmas is a time for togetherness, but sadly older people feel more isolated at Christmas than any other time of year.
This year, we want to change that for as many older people as we can. That’s why we’re calling on everyone to come together and support the Age Cymru Partnership, which consists of, Age Cymru, Age Cymru Dyfed, Age Cymru Gwent, Age Cymru Gwynedd a Môn, Age Cymru Powys and Age Cymru West Glamorgan, so we can give comfort, friendship and joy to older people who need it most.
In a recent survey*, older people in Wales told us that:
For thousands of older people who are feeling lonely, forgotten or who have no one else to turn to for help, the Age Cymru Partnership is a lifeline.
Through our advice services, we offer information and support to help tackle feelings of loneliness.
Through our friendship services, we offer lonely older people connection, a listening ear and a friendly voice.
But we can’t do this alone. The Age Cymru Partnership needs your donations to bring real change for lonely older people at a time when they may otherwise feel forgotten.
No older person should ever feel alone and isolated, particularly over Christmas. Your support has the power to change this.
Every donation, no matter the size, can help the Age Cymru Partnership provide the human connection that too many older people live without.
Together, we can help change the lives of older people who are feeling lonely.
Together we are stronger. Together, we’re not alone.
* Yonder conducted an online and telephone survey on behalf of Age UK. A total sample of 2,755 UK adults aged 65+ were surveyed between 2 and 29 October 2024. Responses were weighted to be representative of the population of the UK. From that sample, we surveyed 160 Welsh adults aged 65+. All statistics are drawn from this polling unless otherwise stated. Targets for quotas and weights are taken from the latest ONS Census data (2021/22) and the PAMCO survey, a random probability F2F survey conducted annually with 35,000 adults.Yonder is a founding member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules. “I hope that I will continue to feel better and would like one day to possibly become a Volunteer for Friend in Need myself.”
How our information and advice service helped Lynn’s journey from loneliness to connection.
With the Covid 19 lockdown, David’s Mum lost all connection to the outside world. Four days before the lockdown, she was diagnosed with dementia and alongside not seeing her friends, she was experiencing emotional shock. But she found friendship through our Friend in Need service.
How our Friend in Need service helped David’s mother by providing connection and a friendly ear.
