Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who work with us to support older people in Wales.
Our volunteers support us and older people across Wales in many ways. From working in our office, running classes with our physical activity teams, providing independent advocacy support through our HOPE programme, making weekly friendship calls to lonely or isolated older people and much much more.
What I enjoy about volunteering with my Nordic Walking groups is the camaraderie with our members and the friendships I've made and seen developing between others in the groups. It became very apparent during the pandemic and long periods of lock down. We have a WhatsApp group and most members checked in regularly to make sure everyone was copping and were not in need. The walking was invaluable to all of us when we were able to walk together under cover rule.
I have very much enjoy working with the Age Cymru staff in Cardiff especially Rebecca she is always there to assist and help if I have an enquiry or a problem and will point me in the right direction.
"The benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, the benefits can be even greater for the volunteer. It can help you to find friends, connect with the community and learn new skills.
Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose.
Giving in even simple ways can help those in need and improve your health and happiness".
Every day, in so many ways, our volunteers give their time and effort to make an incredible difference for older people. Without them, we couldn't be here when we're needed most.
All volunteer roles at Age Cymru support us to improve lives and help us work towards an age friendly Wales.
