Volunteering Role: Tai Chi Instructor
Why did you want to volunteer with Age Cymru?
Volunteering for anything wasn’t something I had consciously thought about. I saw an advert seeking volunteer Tai Chi Instructors and there formed a germ of a good idea. I have always liked the idea of learning Tai Chi, I am gregarious by nature ‘so why not give it a go?’ After a reminders and prompts eventually I applied and to my shock was accepted.
What difference to your life has volunteering made to you?
I have improved my life as a result, I have increasing social circle, and a skill which destresses and relaxes me.
What do you enjoy most about your volunteering experience?
I like to think that I could talk to anyone, sharing the benefits of volunteering and Tai Chi, opens the door with a few additional topic of conversation. The best buzz is the look on a person’s face at the end of the class.
What would you say to someone who is thinking of becoming involved with volunteering?
Give it a try I get far more out of it than I put in, all for a couple of hours a week. But give it a try you just might surprise yourself.
