Enid Rees
Volunteering Role: LIFT Instructor
Why did you want to volunteer with Age Cymru?
I did not at first think of volunteering with Age Cymru or Age Concern Pembrokeshire. I began by replying to a poster advertising Nordic Walking locally through the Befriending Links Project some 8 years ago, it was something I wanted to try. I then did the volunteer training day and it went from there. I then took the LIFT Course some 4 years ago and now take 3 classes
What difference to your life has volunteering made to you?
I have made so many friends and both the mental and physical stimulation keeps me on my toes.
What do you enjoy most about your volunteering experience?
I enjoy most helping others hopefully stay active and importantly to socialise and have fun. That is so much better than staying at home alone I feel. Any worries one may have suddenly become smaller issues and I have improved I feel on my listening skills too.
What would you say to someone who is thinking of becoming involved with volunteering?
I would say to someone who was thinking of becoming involved with volunteering to go for it, it’s a confidence boost that’s for sure. It somehow gives you the feel good factor and makes life worth living in old age.
