Gwent youths back Donate a Coat appeal

Published on 21 February 2013 11:30 AM

Gwent Young Dragons have quite literally given the coats off their own backs to support our charity shop in Monmouth.

The group donated 63 coats to the shop as part of our ‘Donate a Coat' appeal.

Gwent Police Inspector Chris O'Driscoll, the Young Dragons Co-ordinator for Wales, says:

"The Young Dragons are delighted to support Age Cymru's Spread the Warmth campaign.

"Young people from each of the groups within Young Dragons were keen to donate coats and help to give something back to their local community."

Young Dragons are made of up representatives from uniform youth groups, including Gwent Police Cadets, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Cadets, Scouts, Guides, St John Ambulance, Navy Sea Cadets, Air Cadets and Army Cadets.

Donate a Coat is part of our Spread the Warmth campaign to make winter warmer for tens of thousands of older people across Wales.

Our Head of Marketing and Communications Meryl Randell-Jones says:

"We're very grateful to the Young Dragons for their generosity and support for Age Cymru's Donate a Coat appeal.

"Money raised by the Donate a Coat appeal helps fund our work to provide older people with information, advice and practical services so that they can stay warm and well in winter."

Members of the public can support Donate a Coat by handing in coats to our one of our shops.

Celebrities who have supported Age Cymru's Donate a Coat appeal include Hollywood star Rhys Ifans, funnyman Rhod Gilbert, Carol Vorderman and TV presenter Lucy Owen.
