Age Cymru has welcomed the decision to prosecute a former care home worker who has admitted stealing jewellery from vulnerable residents at a care home in Llantrisant.
Commenting on the case of Dean Thomas, who will be sentenced at Newport Crown Court next month, Age Cymru's Director of Influencing and Programme Development says:
"Age Cymru is glad that the authorities were able to gather enough evidence in this case to mount a successful prosecution.
"We hope that the outcome in this case will act as a deterrent to those who would seek to exploit the most vulnerable members of society.
"The law must reinforce the message that it will not tolerate criminal behaviour or elder abuse and that older people must always be treated with dignity and respect.
"Age Cymru would encourage anyone who suspects that someone they know is being abused, or if they themselves are being abused, to report the matter to the police and social services."
