Responding to research from Newcastle University which reveals that older people are missing out on life-prolonging and life-enhancing treatments for heart conditions, Age Cymru's Director of Influencing and Programme Development, Victoria Lloyd comments:
"Age Cymru welcomes this report and commends its authors for highlighting the extent of heart problems among older people.
"The fact that older people are missing out on vital treatments - often because their heart conditions have not been diagnosed - is clearly extremely concerning.
"It is vital that heart problems among older people are diagnosed and that appropriate treatments are provided to those people who need them.
"The importance of providing cost-effective drugs, which reduce the need for hospital visits, should be self-evident given the benefits to patients themselves and NHS budgets."
