Responding to figures issued today by the Office for National Statistics which reveal that people are working longer than they used to, Age Cymru's Equalities Advisor Martyn Jones says:
"It is common knowledge that we have an ageing population and Age Cymru feels that age and ageing should be celebrated.
"Everyone also knows that we're all living longer, that we're all healthier and living healthier for longer than ever before and it is therefore natural that society will need to evolve to reflect this changing demography.
"We are seeing a gradual change in attitude towards older workers - the scrapping of the Default Retirement Age by the UK Government last year was a sign that this is happening.
"The very fact that people are now being given the chance to work - and earn, for longer is a positive development, especially given that 119,000 older people in modern Wales are living in poverty."
