The Queen's Speech

Speaking ahead of today's Queen's Speech, Graeme Francis, Age Cymru's Head of Policy and Public Affairs says:
"It is vital that the UK Government seeks to tackle both poverty and social care in the Queen's Speech, in order to address major issues faced by the older people of today and of the future in its legislative agenda for the year.
"We'll be looking specifically for a lead from the UK Government about how it proposes to reform the system of paying for care.
"This is vital to tackle the endemic problems of underfunding and unfairness in the current arrangements.
"We are also looking for a firm commitment in legislation to introduce a flat rate pension that will lift older people out of poverty."
